2. You may bring your own lunch.

We are only taking one bus. When the bus is full, registration stops. There is space under the bus in the luggage compartment for any plant purchases.

10 AM - MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens

11:39 Lunch - International Center University Campus Cafe (several restaurants to choose from) 

1:00 - Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm

2:30 Peckham Farm

4:00 -Van Atta's  Nursery- Speaker on native plants

​The Lavender Farm has no sidewalks and is on a hill. It is a re-purposed city lot in Lansing (Not handicap friendly)

W. J. Beal Botanical Garden

The W. J. Beal Botanical Garden is a 5-acre botanical garden located on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing. This garden, established in 1873 by Professor William James Beal, is the oldest continuously operated university botanical garden of its kind in the United States. It is an outdoor laboratory for the study and appreciation of plants with more than 2000 different taxa.

MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens

​ MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens is 14 acres of diverse gardens which offers a superb retreat and resource for gardeners, plant lovers and children of all ages!  You may get garden design ideas, or learn new annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees - or perhaps even a fruit or vegetable new to you. On the other hand, you may just want to relax in a beautiful and refreshing garden setting.​

Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm

Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm grows a variety of lavender species that bloom throughout the summer.  Several 'English' lavender varieties are grown on the farm including Folgate, Hidcote, Provence, Royal Velvet, Super and Melissa.  They also produce Lavandin (aka,  'French' lavender) cultivar Grosso.  They then produce many lavender oils and products.

Peckham Farm

Peckham Farms started in 2010 and grows a diverse selection of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. The farm consists of about 15 acres of field production, and about 50,000 sq ft. of high tunnel (unheated greenhouse) production.   Several of the greenhouses use a gutter system, to capture the rain in large barrels to irrigate the crops.  This will be a short stop for retail shopping.

Van Atta's Greenhouse and Flower Shop

Van Atta’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop offers a distinct array of products and services to complement any home and landscape. The annual and tropical plant selection is housed in a 30,000 square foot greenhouse.  The nursery also offers a wide variety of trees and shrubs.

Sabrina VanDyke, one of our Master Gardeners, has put together a fun-filled day.  This is not a MGAGCM or MSU- Extension bus trip, but Barslund has approved 5 educational hours for attending.  Sabrina has organized many of our MGAGCM bus trips in the past.
