Sabrina VanDyke, one of our Master Gardeners, has put together a fun-filled day. This is not a MGAGCM or MSU- Extension bus trip, but Barslund has approved 5 educational hours for attending. Sabrina has organized many of our MGAGCM bus trips in the past.
THE WILDTYPE NURSERY, MASON, MI
For over 20 years, they have specialized in growing plants native to Michigan, from Michigan genotypes. They grow trees shrubs, grasses, wildflowers, and emergent wetland species typical of Michigan woodlands, wetlands and prairies. The owner, Bill, will escort us around as he teaches about their nursery production. In spite this being a wholesale business, we will have a rare opportunity to purchase plants from the nursery.
WINDY ROCK FARMS Manchester, MI
Windy Rock Farm is located off the beaten path in Manchester, Mi. Here you will discover plants with the purpose of attracting pollinators. The Owner, Vince, will talk about his love for native bees, butterflies and honeybees. He will explain why he is dedicated to growing their food. This is also another opportunity to purchase plants.

SPECIALTY GROWER Howell, MI
Karen Bovio, owner/operator, will give us a personal tour of the gardens and explain the facility operation. Karen looks for unique perennials that thrive in Michigan- the reason for the name Specialty Growers. They offer more than 600 varieties of perennials, hostas, day lilies, ornamental grasses, native plants, ferns and wildflowers.
During our travel time, we will view a documentary Seeds the untold story. Few things on earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds -worshiped and treasured since the dawn of humankind. This documentary follows passionate seed keepers who are protecting a 12,000 year-old food legacy. You will learn many intriguing facts, such as, 94 seed varieties have disappeared in the last century.
